The travel begins in Atting in the Zanskar region.There Ritsin is preparing the trek to the Paldar valley.Ritsin has contracted a group a young men : also a Nepali cook will participate in the trek.Atting is at 3.500 meters above sea level.First day they meet yaks which helped them to transport their load.In the stops they drink tea with salted butter and they eat tsampa, a barley flour and local bread.Second day 7 hours of walk, one of the team collect medicinal herbs.Third day a hard walk of 1o hours :there are near of the glacier of Omasila.They will climb till the pass of Omasila at 5.400 meters above sea level, there the new walkers receive a handkerchief (katak).Then going down the glacier tongue and through stones.They will meet nomads coming from Himachal Pradesh and Penjab with their animals (cows and sheep).Also the local people called Bahari have cattle.First village Suncham, then comes the village of Jachel where Ritsin has relatives: they eat potatoes, local bread and fermented milk..At 3.000 meters above sea level they can see the first coniferous trees..They arrive then in the village of Gorna, where they visit relatives, then the village of Losang and finally they arrive at Allod where Ritsin meet his friend Nawang.In this place there is a Hindu ceremony (an important part of the people of Paldar valley practice Hindu religion ); medium, offerings and sacrifice of three sheep. Beneath a Buddhist monastery (kampa) where a Buddhist monk receives the visitors.Near Allod there are zephyr mines which controlled by the Indian government.The members of team buy wooden shovels, spices and plants and will return to Zanskar on the same way.Ritsin will return to Zanskar through the Cachemire and in Machel there is an important pilgrimage; Hinduist people are coming to celebrate a goddess , most arrive by feet but some rich people are arriving in helicopter.
